10/21/2021 - Ontario Transfusion Coordinators Network (ONTraC) Continues to Succeed on the InfiniteKM platform

Toronto, October 21, 2021
As part of its ongoing partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Health and the Ontario Nurse Transfusion Coordinators (ONTraC), InfiniteKM is pleased to announce the launch of new data collection forms and ongoing program support.
The ONTraC program portal plays a vital role in the collection of data on blood transfusion rates and practices, providing important information to doctors, nurses, and patients participating in the blood conservation program.
In addition to providing a central place to access educational resources and information about conferences and meetings, the portal allows nurse coordinators to easily and accurately capture anonymized patient data on blood transfusion needs and alternatives. The analysis of this data helps in the conservation of blood by identifying alternatives, thus ensuring that blood resources are allocated and used as efficiently as possible. InfiniteKM is proud to be partner in facilitating this work which has revolutionized how blood resources are managed nationally and helps strengthen Canada’s healthcare system.
In 2021, the InfiniteKM team are working with the Ontario Ministry of Health and the ONTraC program administrators to update data collection forms with additional data points to improve research and outcomes while maintaining the highest level of information security compliance.
“Infinite Media is proud partner with Ontario nurses and doctors with our powerful InfiniteKM tools, to provide the highest level of care and improve outcomes for patients and the whole healthcare sector. The work of the ONTrac Program and all the nurses who bring their expertise to its implementation is invaluable and the Infinite Media team is pleased to play a role in this.”– Brad Sellors, Managing Director, InfiniteKM

About the ONTraC Program

The Ontario Nurse Transfusion Coordinators (ONTraC) Program is a Provincial Patient Blood Management (PBM) or Blood Conservation Program (BCP) that attempts to enhance transfusion practice by promoting alternatives to donor or allogeneic blood transfusion in surgical patients, improving patient care and well-being in a cost-effective manner.
Formed in 2002, the ONTraC program is a unique initiative supported by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) Blood Programs Coordinating Office (BPCO) to implement a peri-operative patient blood management program in 25 hospitals throughout Ontario. The institutions, large and small, were chosen on the basis of blood utilization and geographic distribution and are a combination of teaching and community hospitals and represent approximately 65% of blood used in Ontario.
The program is coordinated through St. Michael’s Hospital by the Program Manager, Alanna Howell RN, and the Program Director, Dr. John Freedman.
This multidisciplinary, multifaceted program aims at transfusion practice change involving anesthesiologists, surgeons, internists, hematologists, nurses, technologists, hospital administrators, and patients.
